With the help of the classifications from 1 to 5, you can compare the visual condition of the vehicles at a glance.

A quick glance is enough to directly see the visual condition of a vehicle with us and compare it with other vehicles, thanks to the visual condition classification of classes 1 to 5.

All known detailed information, such as appraisals, imaging (interior & exterior incl. damage) or condition reports are additionally mentioned and illustrated transparently in the vehicle description, so that you can also get a detailed picture of the vehicle at any time.

The various classifications:


As with school grades, Class 1 is the best classification value descending to Class 5 or "U" for accident or badly damaged vehicles.

Please note that if a "-" is displayed in the visual classification field, this is not a poor classification of the vehicle and not a good classification. It was not possible to rate the vehicle here because it was not at a BCA location at the time of the assessment and/or received a received a separate appraisal.

Classifications in detail:

Class 1

Class 1

  • Vehicle panels may have minor defects including dents upto 30mm, scratches upto 25mm 
  • Chips upto 10mm on glass
  • Bumpers may have areas of scratches upto 100mm 
  • Wheels can be affected with scratches or corrosion
  • Interior may have minor scuffing due to wear & tear and replacement of minor trim items may also be required 

Class 2

Class 2

The vehicle may have numerous defects as in Grade 1 plus 1 of the following:

  • Paint defect larger than 25mm on a panel or 100mm on a bumper
  • Dent larger than 30mm
  • Defect to glass larger than 10mm
  • Significant trim / part could also be required

Class 3

Class 3

The vehicle may have defects as in Grade 1 & 2 plus it could also include or have a combination of:

  • Upto 5 panels with paint defects larger than 25mm or 100mm on a bumper 
  • Upto 3 panels / bumpers affected with dents larger than 30mm
  • Significant trims or parts could also be required

Class 4

Class 4

The vehicle may have defects as in Grade 1, 2 & 3 it could also include or have a combination of:

  • A panel with significant damage i.e. over 30% or a significant crack to a bumper
  • Upto 10 panels with paint defects larger than 25mm or 100mm on a bumper 
  • Upto 7 panels / bumpers affected with dents larger than 30mm
  • Multiple trims or parts could also be required

Class 5

Class 5

The vehicle may have defects as in Grade 1, 2, 3 & 4 it could also include:

  • More than 2 panels / bumpers with significant cracks or damage i.e. over 30% of the panel
  • 8 or more panels / bumpers affected with dents larger than 30mm
  • 11 panels or more with paint defects larger than 25mm or 100mm on a bumper 
  • Upto 1 structural panel with significant damage i.e. over 30% of the panel 
  • Significant tears, holes or cuts in convertible roofs

Class "D"

Class "D"

Vehicles in this grade could fall into the following categories:

  • Recorded items that exceed the criteria of Grade 5
  • Substantial Accident damage
  • Visible substantial accident damage 
  • Major Parts Missing
  • Multiple significant parts missing from either the interior or exterior 
  • Multiple unrecorded items
  • Vehicles which are uneconomical to appraise

No information: It was not possible to evaluate the vehicle because it was not at a BCA location at the time of the evaluation and/or have received a separate appraisal.

Summary - interior/exterior

Interior appraisal will not cover:

  • Any non-cosmetic item, i.e. floor mats, coin tray covers, locking wheel nuts
  • Any defect that a simple valet would rectify
  • Any light or unavoidable wear to components related to normal usage i.e. creases to leather seats, standard wear to steering wheels
  • Any concealed defect not visually obvious within standard routine i.e. window blinds
  • Lesser defects on component where more/equal significant defect has already been noted
  • Mechanical or electrical operation of any component i.e. glass roof blind not/slow retracting, window not closing etc.


Exterior Appraisal will not cover:

  • Defects not visible from 2m i.e. underbody and under bonnet
  • Identification of previously painted panels
  • Defects only visible via climbing or crouching
  • Mechanical or electrical operation of any exterior component


Definition of Poor Previous Paintwork (PPR):

  • PPR will be included on an appraisal if it is clearly visible from 2 metres in normal lighting
  • Minor dirt inclusions, silicones, orange peel and minor overspray will not be considered PPR
